Victoria's success off the court at the Squash Australia Annual Awards Dinner on Friday night was mirrored on the court at the Australian National Championships held at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre over the weekend.

Open to all Australian players, the Australian National Championships is one of the premier events on the Australian Squash Tour calendar, with competitors vying for the title of 'National Champion'.

Leading the Victorian charge was Australian Commonwealth Games representatives Rex Hedrick and Christine Nunn, who secured a swag of titles between them across the singles and doubles events on offer.

Hedrick continued to gear up for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April by triumphing over Josh Larkin in the Men's Closed Final on Saturday afternoon. Hedrick and Larkin have met numerous times in the last 6 months, with Hedrick coming out on top each time. Saturday afternoon was no different, with Hedrick clinching victory in straight games 11-5, 11-6, 11-5.

Nunn also continued her impressive build towards the Commonwealth Games by defeating defending champion Tamika Saxby in the Women's Closed Final. Nunn was dominant throughout the encounter and proved too strong with a straight games win, 11-2, 11-5, 11-5.

Hedrick’s and Nunn’s success continued in the doubles format, with Hedrick winning the Men’s Open Doubles with Queenslander Alex Eustace, while Nunn walked home with the Mixed Open and Women’s Open Doubles trophies with two different Victorian partners in Darren Chan and Selena Shaikh respectively.

Other Victorians to walk away with national titles over the weekend included Mark Robertson (Men’s A Grade), David Hayes (Men’s B Grade), Carlo Di Tondo (Men’s C Grade), Jananii Sukunesan (Women’s C Grade), Moreno Grison (Men’s E Grade) and Courtney Scholtz (Women’s E Grade).
