Westerfolds (1) @ Templestowe have taken out the Premier grade title of the 2018 Melbourne Winter State Open Pennant on Wednesday night.
The Westerfolds team consisting of Rex Hedrick, Ryan McCarter, Tate Norris and David Taylor won a thrilling Grand Final over the Lilydale Club (1), with the final result coming down to points.
While Westerfolds top seeds Hedrick and McCarter won both of their rubbers 3-0 against Anthony Hill and Nathan Lindner respectively, Lilydale’s Warren Miller and Craig Brook were able to reverse those two results with 3-0 victories in their own matches against Tate Norris and David Taylor. With the scores locked at two rubbers and six games apiece, Westerfolds (1) @ Templestowe were awarded the title with 110 points to Lilydale’s 106
In the remaining State Open Pennant finals, Melbourne University (1) defeated the previously higher-ranked Squash Logic Melton (1) 3-0 to take out the State 2 Pennant, Epping (1) were too strong for MCC (Corio) (2) in the State 3 Pennant Final and Fitzpatrick (2) came from third on the ladder to upset Mountain District 1 in State 4 Pennant.
