Squash & Racquetball Victoria is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people accessing our services. We also support the rights and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers and encourage their active participation in building and maintaining a secure environment for all participants.

Background

The Victorian Government has introduced compulsory minimum standards that apply to all organisations that provide services for children. These standards help to protect children from all forms of abuse. The child safe standards form part of the Victorian Government’s response to the Betrayal of Trust Inquiry.

These Standards apply to sporting organisations from 1 January 2017.

 

Implementation of Standards

Squash & Racquetball Victoria is conducting a review of our sport's approach to the new State Government's standards and is introducing the following initatives for our sports in three phases:

Phase 1 - November to January 2017

  • Establishment of S&RV Child Protection Working Group 
  • Review and update of S&RV Child Protection policies including:
  • Child Safe Policy
  • Review of (national) Member Protection Policy 
  • Employment and Volunteer Policies
  • Photographic and Filming Policy
  • Ongoing communication to S&RV Clubs/Venues and community regarding the new standards and the S&RV Framework

Phase 2 – December 2016 through February 2017

  • Finalisation of the S&RV Child Protection Framework document 
  • Finalisation of the S&RV Child Protection Policy
  • Finalisation of the S&RV Child Protection Code of Conduct
  • S&RV Club Self Audit tool review - completing this tool and developing an action plan will assist each affiliated club to comply with the Victorian Government’s child safety standards
  • BlueQ S&RV resource established to enable monitoring of S&RV personnel WWCC and other mandatory qualifications
  • Coach/Referee/Volunteer Child Protection Action List document prepared
  • Letter to all Coaches and Referees regarding the new standards sent 

Phase 3 – from March 2017

  • Information Day 5 March 11.00am - 1.00pm at MSAC. Contact S&RV to access the video replay of the workshop
  • BlueQ Club Resource released – BlueQ allows for clubs to auto confirm, on an ongoing basis, the status of a person's Working With Children Check Card
  • Club Spot resources released - templates and documents for Clubs
  • Other resources and support as developed

For Clubs & Venues - What you need to do from here

  1. Raise the Child Safe Standards and implications for your Club/Venue at Committee level and minute all discussions
  2. Complete the Club Self Audit tool (available through S&RV) and develop a Child Protection action plan for your club 
  3. Ensure you read and distribute the S&RV Child Protection policies to all involved at your club
  4. Utilise the Club BlueQ resource (provided free of charge as part of affiliation with S&RV) to manage all coach, referee and volunteer personnel Working With Children Checks and any other mandatory requirements. BlueQ introductory video
